Neurological Physiotherapy!

Dry needling is a treatment modality commonly used in physiotherapy, a technique whereby an acupuncture needle is inserted into a myofacial trigger point. In trained hands, it is both an effective and safe technique for the treatment of myofascial pain and dysfunction.
Dry needling could be described as somewhat of a western take on acupuncture. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese system of medicine and dates back thousands of years. The use of needling for myofascial pain has long been common place as a treatment technique integrated into a physiotherapist’s existing skillset. Dry needling can help enhance clinical effectiveness in physiotherapy, as well as broaden the range of conditions a physiotherapist can effectively treat. Musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapists have been using needling and acupuncture in their treatment sessions for decades and the evidence base for use of these techniques in physiotherapy, has increased substantially in recent times. Areas commonly treated with needling in physiotherapy include the management of acute and chronic low back pain, chronic neck pain, tension type and migraine headaches, pelvic girdle pain, knee osteoarthritis, lateral elbow pain and shoulder conditions.
